Description

A delightful twist on classic sweet rolls, perfectly merging the warm spices of gingerbread with creamy frosting, ideal for festive gatherings and holiday brunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, combine softened butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract and whisk until creamy. Gradually add to dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Roll the dough tightly into a cylinder and cut into 8 equal rolls. Place in a greased baking pan and allow to rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  5. For frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth. Spread over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

For a festive touch, sprinkle crushed nuts or sprinkles on top of the frosting before serving. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for a week.
