Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine softened butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract and whisk until creamy. Gradually add to dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread softened butter over the surface, then sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough tightly into a cylinder and cut into 8 equal rolls. Place in a greased baking pan and allow to rise for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- For frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth. Spread over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
For a festive touch, sprinkle crushed nuts or sprinkles on top of the frosting before serving. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for a week.
