Description

A rich and airy chocolate mousse cake, perfect for celebrating Easter with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate cake, crumbled (optional for layers)
  • Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Instructions

  1. Melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. In another bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar together until pale and thick. Stir in the melted chocolate and vanilla.
  3. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until fully combined. In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites and salt until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the mousse.
  4. If using, layer the crumbled chocolate cake at the bottom of a serving dish, then pour the mousse on top. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or until set. Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder.

Notes

Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor. Prepare a day in advance for improved flavor.
