- 1 cup brown sugar, packed

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture until well combined.
- If desired, stir in chocolate chips.
- Drop rounded portions of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, leaving space between them. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until golden around the edges.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheets before transferring to wire racks.
