A rich and savory Bolognese sauce cooked in a slow cooker, perfect for family dinners or meal prep.

- 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 small onion (finely chopped)
- 2 carrots (peeled and diced)
- 2 celery stalks (diced)
- 4 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
- 12 oz (340g) spaghetti or your favorite pasta
- Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
- Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep the vegetables by finely chopping the onion, peeling and dicing the carrots, dicing the celery, and mincing the garlic.
- Brown the meat in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess fat.
- Add the browned meat, chopped vegetables, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), oregano, basil, thyme, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker. Stir to combine.
- Cover and cook on low for 6 hours.
- Stir in the milk or cream and cook for an additional 15 minutes on low.
- Cook spaghetti according to package instructions; reserve some pasta water.
- Serve the Bolognese sauce over cooked pasta and garnish with Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
Notes
This sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat thoroughly before serving.
