Description

A comforting side dish featuring tender layers of potatoes in a rich, creamy sauce with cheddar and Parmesan cheese.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  2. Mix together heavy cream, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined.
  3. Layer in a baking dish with potato slices, the onion and garlic mixture, and sprinkle cheese on top, repeating the layers until all ingredients are used.
  4. Pour the creamy mixture over the top layer of potatoes. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

For best flavor, use starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds. Can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator or freezer.
