- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 6–8 tablespoons ice water
- 4–5 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and sugar until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mix. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough begins to come together. Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while you prepare your apples.
- On a floured surface, roll the chilled dough into a large circle, about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer it carefully to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Arrange the sliced apples in the center of the dough, leaving a 1.5-inch border around the edge.
- Sprinkle the apple filling with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Gently fold the edges of the dough over the apples, creating pleats as you go. Brush the exposed crust with an egg wash made from whisking together the egg and milk.
- Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
- Once baked, let the galette cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Notes
Serve warm or at room temperature, with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added indulgence. Store leftovers wrapped tightly in plastic in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
