Description
This delightful treat combines a sweet and buttery toffee layer with crunchy Saltine crackers and rich chocolate, making it a beloved snack during the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 40 Saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- Optional toppings (e.g., chopped nuts, sea salt)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir until it comes to a boil, then let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Pour the toffee mixture over the arranged crackers, making sure to spread it evenly. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Allow them to sit until they melt, then spread the chocolate evenly over the toffee layer. Optional: sprinkle with chopped nuts or sea salt. Let cool completely, then break into pieces and enjoy.
Notes
For a smoother chocolate layer, consider using chocolate bars instead of chips. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to 2 months.
