  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; mix until smooth. Carefully stir in the boiling water.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  5. Once cool, layer one cake on a serving plate, spread chocolate frosting, add sliced strawberries, and top with the second layer and remaining frosting.
