Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chop the chocolate into small pieces and place them in a heatproof bowl.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
  3. Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir the mixture until smooth, adding the unsalted butter if using, until fully combined.
  5. Let the ganache cool slightly before using it to frost or drizzle over desserts.

Notes

Store any leftover ganache in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat gently with a bit of cream if it thickens.
