- 2 cups sugar
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
- Add eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed until smooth.
- Carefully stir in boiling water; the batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a deeper chocolate flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of instant espresso powder to the dry ingredients.
