Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake that’s perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla; beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour evenly into prepared pans.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  5. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting if desired and enjoy!

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a better batter consistency. Don’t overmix to ensure a tender cake.
