Description
Brioche bread is the epitome of soft, pillowy goodness, perfect for breakfast or a delightful treat any time of day.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm milk with sugar and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and eggs to the flour mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead in softened butter until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Punch down the dough, then shape it into a loaf or individual rolls, depending on your preference.
- Place the dough in a greased loaf pan or baking sheet and allow it to rise again for 30-60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), and brush the top of the loaf with an egg wash for a shiny finish.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let the brioche cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
