Description

A delightful pastry combining flaky puff pastry with creamy cheese filling and sweet blueberry preserves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry
  • 4 oz cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 3 tbsp white granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/3 cup white granulated sugar (for preserves)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Additional blueberries for glaze

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing your filling. In a mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, 3 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  2. Next, make the blueberry preserves. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of blueberries, 1/3 cup of sugar, and a small amount of water. Stir occasionally and cook until the mixture thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  3. Roll out the frozen puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares, roughly 4×4 inches. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese filling and a spoonful of blueberry preserves in the center of each pastry square. Fold the corners of the square to the center and pinch to seal, creating a little pocket.
  4. Prepare the egg wash by beating the egg and mixing it with water. Brush this mixture over the assembled danishes, giving them a beautiful golden color when baked. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes or until the pastries are puffed and golden brown. While they cool, whisk together powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon of milk, and any remaining blueberries to form a glaze, then drizzle it over the cooled pastries.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, best with coffee or tea.
