  • 1 cup hot coffee or hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in hot coffee or water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out on wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost with your favorite frosting.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a lighter texture. Avoid overmixing to prevent a tough cake.
