Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- Buttercream frosting
- Decorations (sprinkles, candles, etc.)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to wet mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide batter evenly between cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost with buttercream and decorate as desired.
Notes
Store leftover cake in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week.
